THREADLESS ON ICE

Dan Gauron takes advantage of a wintry scene to photograph some of his favorite insulators: CD 735 Mulford & Biddles. These threadless date from the mid-to-late 1860's, and were used on early telegraph lines throughout the West. Some, like the example in the middle, are embossed U.P.R.R. (Union Pacific Rail Road) on the reverse. They were used along the tracks of the transcontinental railroad line completed in 1869.
