Kids Korner - Insulators

This year, I discovered what an insulator was. I have always looked at telephone poles but never took any notice of them. This year at my school, Mr. Lee Brewer came to teach my homeroom class. He had glass things all over the room. Our class asked what they were and he told us all about them. Not everyone in our class liked the insulators, but a few guys took a liking to them (Cody Butts, Shane Burkett, and me of course.) He told us about the different CD numbers and companies. Mr. Brewer had so many insulators to show us of all different shapes, sizes, and colors. He started bringing in insulators people had given him and that is how I started collecting.

He would bring in the insulators to school and us guys would take them home. Mr. Brewer did so much for us and even went out of his way to get insulators sent to us so we could get some and learn more about them. He told us all about going to insulator shows and how many insulators were there and all the good buys we could get. He would sometimes bring in free insulators that he got at the shows. He kept asking me to go with him but I never had time. Then one day, I had the day off and got to go with him to the show in Martinsville, West Virginia. I helped him set up his stand in one of the back rooms. It was neat to see the kind of insulators he liked to collect and how much time he put into his stand to make it look good. We stayed there for a couple of hours and I got to see all the insulators. There were so many I couldn't imagine to see bigger shows.

I thank God that Mr. Brewer came to teach at my school. He not only taught me about insulators, but he helped me a lot with my Spiritual walk. If he didn't come I would know nothing about insulators. Thanks to Mr. Brewer I have thirty-nine insulators in my collection.

A purple Whitall Tatum --- one of my favorites.
