Reprinted from "INSULATORS - Crown Jewels of the Wire", March 1985, page 3

In January of 1969 a brainchild was conceived by the Harneds and the Scharffenbergs. In February of that same year announcements of this brainchild were sent to all the collectors for whom we had names and addresses.

The response was really great and very supportive. In March 1969 the brainchild was born -- the very first issue of "Insulators, Crown Jewels of the Wire" rolled off the press.

This month "Crown Jewels" magazine celebrates its 17th birthday. It has lived for 16 years at the same address in Chico, California.

Now the time has come for "Crown Jewels" to move on. Not by my choice, but by that of my two doctors. As most of you know, I have had many medical problems in the last five years (I keep breaking legs, and I've only got two!) that have led to lots of complications for me. The doctors advise me not to sit for long hours at a desk because of circulation problems, etc.

So it is time to let go. I have known ever since November 13, when I broke this right leg, that I had to let go -- but sometimes it is a hard decision to make. I will print one more issue after this one. It will be a combination April-May issue to be mailed before May 10.

Now for the BIG announcement -- "Crown Jewels" will continue being published! Its new home will be in Olmsted Township, Ohio. It will be published by John and Carol McDougald. Most of you know John and Carol, and of their integrity and commitment to our hobby.

John has been National Insulator Association President, while Carol has served as Treasurer of the organization, and is now National Insulator Association Historian. They hosted one of the Best National Insulator Conventions in 1976. Their dedication and service to the insulator hobby speaks for itself.

There will be a coupon printed in the April-May issue good for $1.00 in advertising, to compensate for the one issue that will not be printed. I would like to urge all of you to have faith and continue your "Crown Jewels" subscriptions. I feel you are going to be pleasantly surprised.

I'll be back talking to you again next month.

Dora
