CROWN JEWELS AUCTION

Insulators shown on pages 33 through 48 are described on the following pages. Note that when pictures of insulators are printed, the ink process is called CYMK. That process mixes four colors of ink to try and reproduce the color of an object. It is less than perfect. Brilliant colors often do not reproduce well in ink printed on paper. To view the insulators in digital (RGB) color, check them out on the website.

- 123 EC&M Co (060 - H-mold), aqua, near mint! There's a teeny ping on the reverse dome, otherwise you'll only find wear on the high spots. Exceptional condition for an EC&M! Estimate: $275 - $350. Open: $225.

- 123 EC&M Co (030), olive amber, very near mint. The base only appears rough due to being slightly overpoured. The only flaking appears to be related to removal from the mold. Guaranteed genuine; reasonably certain it was used on the line between Battle Mountain and Austin, Nevada. 29 - 126.3 No Name (010). Appears to have the "111" on the dome, but clearly has "American" threads which aren't mentioned in the listing. Aqua, near mint. Est.: $30 - $40. Open: $10.

- 126.4 AMERICAN (020), aqua, near mint. Milky swirls on one side. Estimate: $30 - $40. Open: $5.

- 127 BROOKES (010), aqua, two base flakes. One removes the "PA" of "PAT". Also a scuff mark below the wire groove. A milk stringer winds round and round the insulator and looks like a snare waiting to capture one of those passing bubbles. Est.: $50 - $60. Open: $15.

- 127 BROOKFIELD (150), aqua, dome ding and three small base chips. This is the "heavy" 127 with no shoulder and straight sides. This example also has solid dome glass from the wire groove up. Estimate: $30 - $40. Open: $10.

- 128.4 HEMINGRAY (020), yellow tint, near mint. Metal insert in threads. Nicknamed "big mouth" or "bull dog" by collectors. Estimate: $150 - $175. Open: $95.

- 130 CAL. ELEC. WORKS (005), large embossing, aqua, wire groove flake, wire groove nick, and wire groove bruise. Concave skirt on reverse. Great graphite plume in the dome glass. Estimate: $400 - $450. Open: $375.

- 130 CAL. ELEC. WORKS (005), large embossing, aqua with HEAVY amber swirling. Damage: fracture on right side extends across dome, flake removes a portion of the embossing, wire ridge bruising on the front, a small wire ridge chip on the back, and a base bruise. BUT, this is an exceptionally rare insulator with the extensive amber swirling. Est.: $2,500 - $3,500. Open: $1,500.

- 131.4 L.G.T. & Co (010), aqua, minor dome scuff otherwise near mint. Swirl start to threads. Estimate: $130 - $160. Open: $110.

- 133 H.G. CO. (090), champagne aqua, near mint apart from an annealing line in the threads. This insulator is downright intoxicating, with more tiny bubbles than the Lawrence Welk show. There are literally thousands upon thousands of bubbles. This is also the embossing style with the missing cross bar on the letter" A" in "MAY". Est.: $150 - $200. Open: $35.

- 133.5 TEL. FED. MEX (unlisted), teal green with milky swirls, thin base flake in front. The embossing is similar to the (020) style, except there is a period after JM. And the blot out is in front of JM. Estimate: $125 - $175. Open: $95.

- 138.2 NATIONAL (010), aqua with some milky swirls. This insulator has a lot of surface wear and needs to be tumbled to clean it up. There's a insignificant chip at the start of the threads. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of tiny bubbles in the glass. Estimate: $50 - $75. Open: $35.

- 139.9 McLAUGHLIN (020), aqua, wire ridge chip on front. Tough CD to find. Estimate: $180 - $200. Open: $160.

- 143 C.N.R. (010), blue aqua, small wire ridge flake and a little wire ridge wear. This is the variety with the small "CNR" embossing. What's special about it is the fact that the threads are severely malformed from huge open bubbles. Est.: $20 - $30. Open: $5.

- 143 C.N.R. (060), green, some wear around the wire groove, several base nibbles, and a couple minor dome pings. Tougher color than the price guide suggests. Estimate: $125 - $150. Open: $100.

- 143 C.N.R. (060), yellow green, near mint. Couple nice bubbles, and some amber layers in the dome. The lines in the reverse skirt are annealing marks, and not fractures. Estimate: $60 - $70. Open: $45.

- 143 No Embossing (Canadian) (120 - Withycombe), green, very near mint. There's a couple spots of surface wear here and there, and some annealing lines in the threads; but many folks would call this one mint. Estimate: $125 - $150. Open: $100.

- 143 STANDARD (010), royal purple, several wire groove nicks and wear. Has some rust marks that some collectors prefer to leave in place. Couple annealing lines in threads. Estimate: $80 - $90. Open: $60.

- 144 No Embossing (010 - Foree Bain), aqua, only about three nicks on the ridges. Estimate: $90 - $110. Open: $75.

- 145 CALIFORNIA (010), purple, several spots of wear on the dome, some factory grinding around base. Estimate: $35 - $45. Open: $20.

- 145 CALIFORNIA (010), yellow, open bubble on base and a couple very insignificant spots of surface wear. Fabulous color with maybe two dozen bubbles. Forget the Price Guide on this beauty. 79 - 145 H.G.CO. (140), lavender - purple two tone, near mint. The dome is quite purple, but the skirt is bluish. Great "whittle mold" appearance overall. Pretty insulator. Estimate: $300 - $400. Open: $150.

- 145 H.G.CO. (140), powder blue, wire groove flaking & nibbling and "gouge" on reverse dome. Appears there are four small pieces of metal in the glass, but best characteristic is the color. Estimate: $90 - $110. Open: $80.

- 155 ARMSTONG (030), cobalt blue, SOLID POUR, mint. The embossing is weak but this appears to be an Armstrong and not a Kerr. It is a solid pour; that is, there's no thread cavity. It has reddish-milky glass at the base. We don't know the story behind this "insulator"; but it appears to have been made in a genuine insulator mold with the (030) Armstrong embossing style. It may be nothing more than an factory worker's pretty paperweight, but it will sure add color to your line-up of CD 155's. Open: $50. Estimate: $100 - $200.

- 160 CALIFORNIA (010), smoke with some very faint purple steaks in dome, near mint. Estimate: $15 - $20. Open: $5.

- 162 CALIFORNIA (010), burgundy, near mint with only a couple surface blemishes. The insulator has over an inch of dome glass, a few nice bubbles, but its best characteristic is the clarity of the glass. The spot at the base under the embossing is a bubble that is close to the surface, but not broken. Estimate: $40 - $50. Open: $30.

- 162 CALIFORNIA (010), purple-sage two tone, near mint. This is a minor two-tone, with striations of color in the dome. Also a few nice bubbles. Est.: $50 - $75. Open: $35.
